What is creativity?

1.Learning

“The creative person wants to be a know it all, He wants to know about all kinds of things. He never knows when these ideas might come together to form a new idea. It may happen six minutes later or in six years but the creative person has faith it will happen” Carl Ally

2.Curiosity

Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people” Leo Burnett

Curiosità - Be insatiably curious and forever asking questions.

3.Mode

John Cleese defines the creative process of learning to switch between two states or modes:
open and closed.

When we are under pressure and stress to deliver we are in closed mode. When we are relaxed and ‘playful’ we are in the open mode.

4.Imitation

“all ideas are second-hand, consciously and unconsciously drawn from a million outside sources… It takes a thousand men to invent a steam engine, or or a photograph, or a telephone... and the last man gets the credit and we forget the others”
Mark Twain

5.Connecting the dots

“Creativity is just
connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while” – Steve Jobs

6.No fear

“Failure is an essential component of innovation… I would be haunted by not trying at all. Better to try and fail - I could live with that.” Jeff Bezos

7.Tenacity

“Inspiration is for amateurs - the rest of us just show up and get to work.” Chuck Close

8.Discipline

"Sometimes you just get in there and force yourself to work and something good will come out of it"
Jack White

9.Letting go

"if you hoard your ideas you will end up living off your reserves and eventually become stale. If you give away everything you have, you are left with nothing. This forces you to look, to be aware, to replenish. The more you give away the more comes back to you." Paul Arden
